Venture capital intelligence in 2026: how to access it

Worked example: micro VC funds. Data as of 23 October 2026.

This walk takes one investor type through the site and prints what each step produces. Micro VC funds are the example. The type is small enough to check by hand and it still holds enough investors for location pages. The same six steps work for any of the 22 investor types, from 24,254 venture capital firms down to 74 pension funds. All figures come from the file dated 23 October 2026.

Step 1. Start at the investor index

/investors/ lists the 22 investor types with a count each: 24,254 venture capital firms, 23,916 angel investors, 9,693 private equity firms, 2,364 micro VC funds, 3,207 accelerators, and the rest. The types are the entry point because an entry carries one or more of them and every type has a page.

22 investor types, 79,515 entries in total.

Step 2. Open the type page

/investors/micro-vc-funds/ prints the count above the table. The table shows the top 100 funds by recorded investments, with lead investments, exits and a team count beside each. Recorded investments is what the source has on file for that investor, which is the floor rather than the total.

The page carries three blocks under the table: the stage split, the countries and cities the funds sit in, and the list of location pages that exist for this type. Those blocks are the links to the next two steps, so nothing here needs a search box.

2,364 micro VC funds.

Step 3. Read the stage split

The stages block on the type page reads 1,858 at seed, 1,622 at early stage venture, 363 at venture, 361 at late stage venture. These add to more than 2,364, because an investor carries every stage it writes cheques at and is counted once on each stage page.

1,858 micro VC funds invest at seed.

Step 4. Narrow to a place

A type crossed with a place gets a page once it holds 20 investors. For micro VC funds that gives /investors/micro-vc-funds/united-states/ with 986, /investors/micro-vc-funds/london-england/ with 101, San Francisco with 129 and New York with 136. Place comes from the headquarters address on the entry, so a fund with three offices is counted once and counted where its head office is.

The location pages block on the type page lists every place that clears the floor with its count, so it doubles as an answer to which cities hold enough micro VC funds to be worth a page at all.

101 micro VC funds headquartered in London.

Step 5. Read the team count

The last column on an investor table is the number of public professional profiles matched to that investor's website domain. Across micro VC funds it covers 732 of 2,364 funds and 7,052 profiles. It is a size signal and nothing more: no individual person is published anywhere on this site, and a fund with no website carries no team count at all.

7,052 profiles across 732 micro VC funds.

Step 6. Check the slice against the whole file

/stats/ carries the totals the slice sits inside: 79,515 entries, 22 types, 13 investment stages, 167 countries and 5,219 cities, with the charts behind each. If a number on a type page looks wrong, this is the page that says what it should be a fraction of.

The charts on /stats/ are the same counts drawn, and each bar links to the page behind it. Nothing on the site is computed twice: a chart, a table and a figure page all read the file loaded at startup.

79,515 investor entries across 167 countries.

What the counting rules say

Four lines from /method/ decide what these numbers mean, quoted as they are written there.

  • An investor is counted once per type and once per stage it carries, so type and stage counts add up to more than 79,515.
  • Location counts use the headquarters address only. An investor with several offices is counted once.
  • A type by location page is built once it holds at least 20 investors.
  • A count of recorded investments counts what the source records, not every investment made.

The first rule is why the stage split above adds to more than 2,364, and the second is why a fund with a London office and a New York head office does not appear on the London page.

Method

How to cite a page

Both citation forms are printed on the site. The first is the general one from /method/, the second is the line a figure page prints ready to copy.

What this cannot answer

Fund sizes, assets under management and deal terms are not carried, so nothing here says how large a micro VC fund's fund is. Portfolio company lists are not carried either, only the counts. 31,384 of 79,515 entries carry no website and so carry no team count, and an investor with no published location is absent from every location count. Recorded investments is what the source holds, which makes it a floor.

Individual people are never published. Only the count per investor is.
